In this picture, referring to the rare in the history of Russian art genre, nudity, Kustodiev managed to combine the images of the national-romantic trend in the art and perfect neoclassical forms. The image, Kustodiev combines the beauty with naive artist's out look and refined aestheticism of Russian Silver Age.

Kustodiev perceived revolution as spontaneous uprising of the masses. In the painting "Bolshevik", artist's perception was reflected in the symbolic figure of worker towering over the city and holding a flag in his hands.
